Meryl Streep & Martin Short Toast Each Other

THE friends-withbenefits relationship of Meryl Streep and Martin Short is still going strong!

“Martin’s joy in life is to make Meryl laugh. Alcohol just lubricates that experience and enhances it, but it’s also the single biggest thing they have in common,” dishes an insider.

The senior sweethearts have become super-close over the last year and a half, both on and off the set of the Hulu hit Only Murders in the Building.

As readers know, the Father of the Bride alum, 74, has been single ever since his wife of 30 years, Nancy Dolman, died of ovarian cancer in 2010.

Meanwhile, the Mamma Mia star, 75, separated from her sculptor hubby, Don Gummer, seven years ago, though the split wasn’t made public until 2023.

“It’s no secret that Meryl went a little stir-crazy during the pandemic because she loves working and making money and she was cut off from that during that time,” spills a snitch.

“And her marriage had been over for some time, though they have yet to finalize the details.

“Her closeness to Martin is a reaction to all that, and yes, they do love to drink together.

“I’m not going to guess how long they last as a low-key, casual couple but as long as they’re working together and making comedy together, blowing off steam and throwing back a few drinks is just going to come naturally to them!”

Adds the tipster, “They have incredible chemistry and they’ve had amazing lives. Why Martin lost wife stop now when the best Nancy Dolman to cancer is yet to come?”
