A British national accused of placing a hidden camera in an airplane bathroom to secretly film women has been arrested in Singapore.
Hugh Lutley faces one charge each of voyeurism and obstruction of justice by deleting evidence, according to a report from Channel News Asia (CNA). If convicted of the voyeurism charge, he could face imprisonment, a fine, be caned — which means being struck by a stick — or any combination of these punishments, per Singaporean law.
For the obstruction of justice charge, he could face up to seven years in prison, fines or both.

The outlet reports the alleged incident took place on Wednesday, October 7, on a Scoot flight from Japan to Singapore. Police say Lutley, 52, concealed a camera in one of the plane’s bathrooms before going back to his seat and activating its recording function remotely from an app on his phone. At some point, a flight attendant used the bathroom and discovered the recording device. She promptly removed it and immediately notified her coworkers.
Lutley later tried to retrieve the camera, only to discover it was gone. He then allegedly deleted the mobile application as well as any photos that he took with it in what was seemingly an attempt to hide his actions and avoid detection.
Upon arrival at Changi Airport, Lutley was detained by police and his phone and camera were seized as evidence. CNA reports that he indicated he would plead guilty and was offered bail amounting to approximately $7,800 USD. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for November 17.
