Lindsay Clancy’s former neighbors are reflecting on her family’s quiet life in Duxbury, Massachusetts, as jurors continue to weigh criminal responsibility in her closely watched murder trial.

Clancy’s former neighbors told The U.S. Sun for a story on Monday, August 31 that Lindsay and her ex-husband, Patrick Clancy, appeared to be an ordinary young couple raising three kids in the affluent Boston suburb.

Lindsay, 36, is on trial for the murders of her three children, 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan, who were strangled with exercise bands inside the family’s home. She has pleaded not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility and, if convicted, faces life in prison.

On September 1, the jury told the judge they had been unable to come to a unanimous decision after four days of deliberations, but were instructed to continue to try to reach a verdict.

Duxbury resident Eric McDonald told the U.S. Sun that opinions in their neighborhood also remain split over whether Lindsay was suffering from postpartum psychosis or understood her actions.

During the trial, prosecution expert Dr. Gregory Saathoff testified that Clancy’s account was unusual — she said she had never heard voices before, then suddenly heard a man’s voice repeatedly commanding her to kill her children and herself.

“Small community. Quiet. Nothing like this really happens,” Mark Shortt, 62, who lived two doors from the former Clancy home, told the outlet, adding that some residents want Lindsay imprisoned for life, while others believe she should be placed in a secure treatment facility. He told the outlet that he supports psychiatric treatment rather than prison.

One of their neighbors, Ruth Hearson, 81, told the outlet that she does not believe Lindsay should be held criminally responsible. “I feel bad. When you’re like that, you’re not guilty,” she said. “Because it wasn’t you doing it. She just wasn’t in her right mind. I have no animosity toward her whatsoever.”

Lindsay and Patrick have also filed separate civil lawsuits against the medical providers who treated her before the killings, alleging failures in her psychiatric care contributed to the tragedy. The providers have denied wrongdoing.

Patrick has largely moved on since the tragedy. He forgave Lindsay publicly just days after the killings, writing in a statement on the family’s GoFundMe that he wanted others to “find it deep within yourselves to forgive Lindsay, as I have.”

He has since remarried, marrying Dr. Rachel Danis in April 2026, and now lives in New York City.

Patrick also testified as the prosecution’s first witness during the trial’s opening week, recounting Lindsay’s mental health decline in the months before the killings, testimony that both sides drew on throughout the case.
