Lindsay Clancy‘s lawyer, Kevin Reddington, is not holding back after Senator Ted Cruz‘s comments regarding the 36-year-old Massachusetts mother’s mistrial.
Cruz, 55, weighed in on legal proceedings during an interview with Newsmax’sRob Finnerty last week, calling Clancy, who was charged with the January 2023 murders of her three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months.
“There is no dispute that this monster of a mother murdered all three children, a 5-year-old, a 3-year-old and an infant, and didn’t just murder them, like [she] slowly, deliberately, systematically used exercise bands to strangle the life out of one after the other, after the other,” Cruz said at the time.
Clancy pleaded not guilty to the charges against her, with Reddington, 75, adamant that his client was experiencing postpartum psychosis at the time, a sentiment he doubled down on in a statement released to the New Haven Register on Thursday, September 9, slamming the Texas Senator and even accusing him of “ragebaiting.”
“Senator Cruz, you, sir, are despicable. You clearly do not come close to understanding the basic concept of postpartum psychosis. Quite frankly, that is not surprising,” Reddington’s statement read, in part. “You obviously do not know the first thing about mental health or the woeful state of medical and psychiatric care in our country. Instead of making a rational observation, you call for her execution.”

Reddington called Cruz’s comments “reprehensible” and challenged the politician to confront him in person if he wanted to talk things out.
The heated back-and-forth came after on September 4, jurors said they could not reach a unanimous verdict on whether or not Clancy was criminally responsible for her children’s deaths, forcing Judge William Sullivan to declare a mistrial.
Prosecutors now must decide whether or not they want to go to trial again with a new jury. They could also offer a plea deal to Clancy.
In the meantime, Clancy, who is now paralyzed from the waist down following her attempt to take her own life, has returned to Tewksbury Hospital — where she’s been since the 2023 incident — receiving medical and psychiatric care. “She is suicidal,” Reddington told NBC News on September 9. “She’s on 24/7, one-on-one suicide watch. I worry about her every day.”
