In addition to multiple TV appearances and hosting gigs, he was a performer with USO tours throughout the Middle East. He was very proud of some of his overseas performances for US troops, per his obit.
In the late 1990s, he co-hosted an Albany-based morning show with Bob “The Wolf” Wohlfeld on WPYX, pivoting to Poughkeepsie-based WPDH in 2010 before moving to iHeartRadio for Mulrooney in the Morning. Throughout his comedy career, he maintained a radio presence, prompting others in the comedy world to admire his work ethic.
In addition to stand-up comedy and performing, John was a police officer in Coxsackie from 2010 to 2024.

His friend and fellow comedian, Andrew Dice Clay, was among the first to eulogize the late star on social media.
“He never gave up, he never stopped trying, which is what it’s all about in my book. Not everybody climbs to the top, and not everybody becomes a superstar,” Clay wrote. “John was a great, great comedian, John was a pilot, a boxer, he became a police officer for like the last 25 years on top of doing stand-up comedy . JOHN, you accomplished a lot.!!!”
