Luke Millanta, a widely respected game designer, has quietly built a million-dollar side business by creating custom Counter-Strike maps — partnering with global brands like Red Bull, Monster Energy, and DHL to do it.

A longtime figure in the gaming community, Millantas work is already familiar to millions. Since uploading his first creations to Steam Workshop in 2014, he has amassed nearly 165,000 followers and more than 22 million subscriptions across his maps and content. His designs blend high-level game mechanics with immersive visual storytelling — skills that have made him an in-demand collaborator for companies looking to reach younger, gaming-savvy audiences.

“I knew I needed a way to stand out from the crowd – partnering with brands like Razer allowed me to get my works in front of thousands of gamers,” Millanta said.

His rise took off in 2018 when a cyberpunk reimagining of Counter-Strikes Dust II map went viral, gaining him 30,000 new followers in a week. That momentum led to further brand partnerships and even physical products like a limited-edition SteelSeries mousepad in 2024 inspired by his map work.

Despite the commercial success, Millanta still considers this a creative outlet.

“I am incredibly fortunate to be in this position,” he says. “At the end of the day, it is still just a hobby to me, albeit quite a profitable one. I build what I want to build and only work on the projects I feel most passionate about.”

Millanta’s career has spanned far beyond game design. In 2020, he set a Guinness World Record as the most followed content creator on Steam. Hes collaborated with Starbreeze Studios on in-game cosmetics for Payday 2 and helped design a custom player skin for Resident Evil 2. His tech-savvy approach has also led him into the art world, where his dynamic NFT piece Disconnected is now part of Questacons permanent collection in Australia.

Millantas entrepreneurial streak began early. After leaving school at 17 to pursue professional gaming, he pivoted into cybersecurity and tech following the 2008 financial crisis. He went on to found Brackenwood Systems, a Bitcoin-enabled virtual goods trading platform, which he sold in 2020 for $4.2 million AUD (about $2.7 million USD). That same year, he became Chief Technology Officer at Hive Gaming, launching an esports tipping platform called Prosper Ultimate before exiting the company in 2023.

He now splits his time between artistic collaborations and developing a new business in the cryptocurrency payments space — another blend of passion and strategy for someone whos consistently turned hobbies into high-growth ventures.
