Hillary Clinton has one question for disillusioned Americans who believe their vote doesn’t count: Has your life improved at all under those currently in charge?
The onetime-presidential hopeful and former Secretary of State spoke at an event for Nebraska Democrats in Omaha on Saturday, October 10, where she was asked by someone in the audience what she’d say to anyone who truly believes their vote doesn’t matter.
Clinton said she could understand the sentiment, especially for anyone who feels like “they’ve had a series of hard times.”
“If you look back on the last 25 years in our country, I was a senator from New York on 9/11. That was a trauma. The terrible financial crisis of 2008 was horrific for people,” she explained. “We had an election in 2016 that, you know, raised a lot of questions that we’re still trying to find answers for about what, what kind of really went on, and then we had COVID.”

The 2016 election, of course, ended with her winning the popular vote, but losing the Electoral College to rival PresidentDonald Trump.
“So if you’re somebody who is saying, ‘Does it really matter that I vote because I’m not sure I matter to the people that I’m asked to vote for?’ What we have to do is demonstrate as clearly as possible and then repeat over and over again, ‘You do matter, and we’re going to do everything we can to try to help you have the life you deserve to have,'” Clinton insisted.
Looking ahead, the former first lady said she was “very excited about winning in November,” referring to the midterms. She then said it’s important that, should Dems take control, they implement policies that have a positive impact.
“What the Republicans have done and what Trump, let’s give him credit, is a master of doing, is diverting attention,” said Clinton, claiming the president doesn’t care about affordability, but is instead focused on sowing division and keeping things “in a constant state of turmoil.”
“I think that’s kind of worn out,” Clinton said of his messaging. “I think what originally seemed like, ‘Oh, he’s a different kind of leader. He says what he thinks.’ All of that, I think that is beginning to finally sink through to people like, ‘Wait a minute, am I better off? Has my life improved?'”

She said that those who do seem to be “doing really, really well” right now are the people who have “a lot of access to the president,” before claiming Trump, too, “has made a lot of money, which is so unprecedented.”
The question for voters to ask themselves, she said, should be, “What has he actually done for me?”
“Do you think the people that are currently in charge in Washington, have they actually helped you? Have they actually made your life better?” she added. “If the answer is no, why don’t you take a chance on people who are promising to do that for you?”
The midterm elections will be held Tuesday, November 3.
