Tragedy has struck Jim Carrey once again — the 62-year-old star is devastated by the death of older sister Rita, the latest in a litany of losses he has suffered!

Now people close to him are encouraging him to hang on, sources tell GLOBE.

“It’s dreadful news — Jim was so close to Rita,” confides an insider.

“Friends are checking in on him and letting him know they’re there if needed. Jim’s been through so much and he’s an intensely private guy but they’re rallying around without being too clingy.”

Rita, 68, a bus driver who would sing carols to her passengers, passed away “peacefully and quietly” on Nov. 14, according to Alex, her partner of 16 years.

In an Instagram post, Alex, who tied the knot with Rita last year, shared, “Rita always had a loving soul and wanted to help everyone, even total strangers.”

The loss of Rita is weighing heavily on Jim, whose brother, John, 60, died four years ago of aplastic anemia, which he’d had since he was 4. Jim devoted his debut novel, Memoirs and Misinformation, to him.

As readers know, the rubber-faced star of The Mask was inconsolable after his ex-girlfriend, hairstylistbeautician Cathriona White, 30, died of a prescription drug overdose in 2015.

“It goes without saying he’s devastated — his friends know how much he loved Rita and what a close-knit family they were,” says a tipster. “Thankfully he has loyal and doting people around him. Everyone is telling him to stay strong!”
