Gayle King Complains to United Airlines About Windowless Window Seat: ‘It’s Going to Be a Long Ride’

Gayle King was none-too-pleased to find out the window seat she booked through United Airlines for a recent flight came with no window at all.

On Sunday, January 4, the CBS News anchor, 71, shared a since-deleted Instagram post featuring a video of her seat next to a simple white wall instead of an actual window.

“There is no window,” she continued in the video before panning over to show yet another wall on the other side, per People. “Well, maybe I can look at the neighbor’s window across the hall.”

“What’s a girl to do? I asked the flight attendant. They were very nice,” the TV personality noted. “It’s going to be a long ride.”

King reportedly captioned the photo by tagging United Airlines, noting that the flight attendant she talked to even agreed it was not a window seat.

“He said he had never seen anything like this and while there was nothing he could do (full flight), he suggested I complain,” she wrote. “This is me complaining.”

King isn’t the first person to encounter this alleged “window seat” bait-and-switch scheme. In August, United and Delta Airlines faced a class action lawsuit for allegedly selling “windowless” window seats, per People.

At the time, the airlines argued that “window seat” refers to a position of the seat in question as being up against the window side of the plane, not a guarantee that one will get a window next to them.

In November, Reuters reported that United Airlines sought to throw the entire case out.
