Amy Weaver, the outgoing President and CFO of Salesforce, has been named the new CEO of Direct Relief, a leading global humanitarian aid organization.

This transition comes amid significant challenges faced by aid organizations as government support diminishes worldwide. Direct Relief, recognized for its impactful work during the Los Angeles wildfires, continues to spearhead efforts across numerous global crises. The organization is notably involved in providing assistance to Ukraine, delivering over $42 million in financial aid and 2,480 tons of medical supplies valued at $1.3 billion.

“In selecting Amy, we sought a leader with the caliber, passion, and experience to guide Direct Relief through the accelerating scale and complexity of the humanitarian challenges that lie ahead,” Mark Linehan, Chair of the Board of Directors, wrote in a latter to employees announcing the move. “She is widely known for being a deeply strategic and deliberate thinker — a force for change who always puts people first.”

Weaver’s appointment is timely, given her extensive experience in business, law, and finance, areas crucial for navigating the current volatile landscapes of global non-profit support. Her leadership is expected to strengthen Direct Relief’s existing capabilities, helping it scale operations and efficiently manage finances.

“Over the past 75 years, Direct Relief has established a powerful legacy of delivering meaningful impact to those in need,” said Weaver. “Im honored and excited to build on that foundation and help shape the future of humanitarian response. As global challenges grow more urgent and complex, Direct Relief has a responsibility not just to meet the demand for medical aid, but to lead the way in reimagining how we respond to a rapidly changing world. Im inspired by the dedication and expertise of this incredible team, and I look forward to working together to drive innovation and make an even greater difference.”

This leadership change highlights the growing trend of professionals from corporate backgrounds transitioning into roles in non-profit organizations, aiming to apply their expertise to address systemic global challenges. With Weaver’s diverse set of skills, Direct Relief anticipates increasing its influence and effectiveness in providing humanitarian assistance where it is most needed.
