Four crew members were rescued by good Samaritans after their tugboat caught fire on the Delaware River on Tuesday, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

At around 9:26 a.m. Tuesday, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay received a distress call from the crew of the tugboat reporting the vessel was on fire near Pea Patch Island on the Delaware River.

The Coast Guard issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast Notice to alert mariners in the area, and launched crews from Station Philadelphia and a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Atlantic City to assist. Local agencies also responded to assist.

Four crew members on board the tugboat were safely evacuated by good Samaritans.

The fire was extinguished and the vessel was placed under tow, the Coast Guard said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
