A Canadian man was issued a roadside prohibition and had his vehicle impounded after driving drunk to a police station to report a different crime.
In a statement posted on the Abbotsford Police Department’s Facebook page, the department revealed that a 42-year-old man arrived at the police headquarters building around 2 a.m. His goal was to report that he lost his cellphone after taking an Uber home from a local liquor store earlier in the evening.
While at the station, officers said they quickly noticed signs of alcohol impairment in the man. The biggest clue was the fact that the man briefly drove his truck on the sidewalk of the police headquarters’ parking lot. He was given a roadside screening test and was found to indeed be impaired.

The police say he was issued a 90-day roadside prohibition, effective immediately, and the truck he drove to the station was impounded.
“It’s not every day that an impaired driver brings himself directly to a police station,” police said in their statement.
However, they concluded with a public service announcement to readers.
“Plan ahead, arrange a safe ride home, and never get behind the wheel while impaired. AbbyPD officers remain committed to removing impaired drivers from our roads and holding those who make dangerous decisions accountable.”
