Bill Clinton Thanks Prince Harry for ‘Challenging’ People to ‘Think Carefully About How We Shape AI’

Prince Harry is calling attention to the powers of artificial intelligence and the potential dangers that come along with it.

The Duke of Sussex, 42, appeared at Bill Clinton and wife Hillary Clinton‘s Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting in New York City on Wednesday, September 23, to deliver remarks about what the future could look like in a world of AI, particularly when it comes to how children use it.

During his speech — who shares Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, with wife Meghan Markle — compared the technology to the dangers of social media, per Page Six. “I come to this as a father, one who has shared countless conversations with other parents as they mourned the loss of their children to recklessly built technology.”

In response to Harry’s speech, the former U.S. president, 80, thanked the Spare author for making an appearance at his annual meeting. 

“Grateful to Prince Harry for joining us at #CGI2026 and challenging us to think carefully about how we shape AI — and make sure innovation serves people,” the 42nd U.S. president wrote in an X post shared Friday, September 25.

Harry pointed out during his remarks, “AI is learning how to enter our relationships.”

“It doesn’t just want your attention,” he said. “It wants your attachment. It wants to be the thing you confide in — the thing that remembers you, the thing that tells you it understands you, the ultimate sycophant. And for a child, that distinction matters enormously.”

“We have spent years trying to loosen technology’s grip on children’s attention,” Harry continued. “I don’t think we can wait another decade to discover what happens when technology has a grip on their relationships. And this is happening as AI itself becomes more capable.”

Harry made headlines earlier in the week due to a technical difficulty during his remarks after a teleprompter glitched and caused him to cut his speech early.

He later returned to the stage and jokingly said, per CNN, “AI got into my speech, so I was asked to come out and finish it.”
