Alex Pretti’s Cause of Death Officially Ruled a Homicide After ICE Agents Shot Him ‘Multiple’ Times

The manner in which Alex Pretti died has been confirmed to be homicide.

According to a document from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, Dr. Andrew Baker, listed Pretti’s “cause of death” as “multiple gunshot wounds,” per TMZ.

In the section where it reads “how injury occurred,” Dr. Baker wrote, “Shot by law enforcement officer(s).”

The location of his death is listed as Hennepin Healthcare, while the “place of injury” is an address on the street.

As Globe previously reported, Pretti — who worked as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center — was shot and killed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents on Saturday, January 24, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was 37 years old.

Video footage of Pretti’s interaction with ICE agents shows he was recording the agents with a cell phone and then was pinned to the ground and pepper-sprayed repeatedly. An agent seemed to emerge with a gun, and Pretti — who was licensed to carry a firearm — was then shot 10 times in less than 5 seconds, according to ABC News.

Meanwhile, the Border Patrol commander Greg Bovino — who has since been relieved from his duties in Minnesota — initially claimed Pretti “violently resisted” arrest and his agents had to fire “defensive shots,” contradicting video footage per the BBC.

Pretti’s killing came amid the Trump administration’s ongoing immigration crackdown in Minnesota, which also resulted in the death of Renee Nicole Good, who was shot and killed by ICE agents on January 7. Good was also 37.

Trump, 79, told reporters last week that he wants an “honorable and honest investigation” into Pretti’s death, per AP.
